Organising a Unit for Regular Access

KEEP THIS IN MIND

Unit dimensions, access routes and the way you pack can change what fits. Treat size comparisons as a starting point and ask the facility team when in doubt.

A unit used every week needs a different layout from one holding household contents for six months. Regular access depends on visibility, safe shelving and a route that stays clear.

Draw a simple zone plan

Reserve the front for collections and returns, the middle for frequently used boxes and the rear for longer-term storage. Mark the zones on a printed inventory or on the inside of the unit door.

Keep labels readable

Label boxes on two adjacent sides and use larger shelf labels than you would at home. Avoid vague categories such as miscellaneous; describe the contents well enough that another person could find them.

Reset after every visit

Return items to their zones, remove empty packaging and check that nothing is leaning into the aisle. Five minutes at the end of each visit keeps the unit efficient and safer to use.
